All monies raised for this event will go to the American Red Cross’s Disaster Relief Fund. Further information concerning the Red Cross and our choice of primary charity for SERE 2007 can be found back at the main SERE 2007 Charity page.
No. Regardless of a contestant’s ‘perceived popularity’ (being in with the cool kids klub), the point spread has been designed with an honest chance for anyone that makes a genuine effort to fundraise and have fun with this event. We want this to be about the charity and have tried to staff it and craft how it works in such a way that it stays focused around supporting this effort throughout the region, while providing collective entertainment.
We have faith that everyone will take this as the tongue-in-cheek opportunity it is to raise money for a good cause. If one of the finalists isn't Mr Atlas and comes onstage in funky swim trunks and a t-shirt and helps everyone have a good time after the games, then we've all enjoyed something together and come that much closer to our charity goal.
Remember, swimwear doesn't have to equal speedo. Same goes for the talent. If you can't be good - if you're no Pavarotti or Fred Astaire - maybe you can score points with the judges by being great at over-the -top funny awful! ;)
The important thing is the charity and raising money between now and the first few days of the convention to support it. We've just chosen to celebrate our effort and the effort of our region in a fun-spirited and unique way.
Yes. Our emcee would be happy to check.
Anything that does not break the laws of the land or the Camarilla Code of Conduct is fair game. Car washes, penny wars, book sales, dance-a-thons, cheese games! Be creative and be generous.
All of our contestants will be introduced to the crowd in t-shirt in jeans before the five highest fundraisers are announced, when these charity champions will qualify for the next round. Our remaining contestants will be thanked, cheered, and sent to enjoy the rest of the show from the audience. From there on, the five will entertain the judges and their fellow Camarilla members with such pageant standards as the talent, swimwear, and question portions of the ‘competition’.
Of course, the money they raise before the pageant is a full 25% of the final score.
The Q&A portion is geared to what that particular member has done to contribute to their community (in-club efforts or outside the club) or to club charity drives. This will help keep the focus on what this is really about. This answer will be another 25% of their score.
The Talent portion is dedicated to entertaining those attendees of the pageant. It will count as another 25% of their score, but it's entertainment, so if they are horrendously bad on purpose, that can be just as entertaining (and sometimes more so) than supra-suprano-boy-extraordinaire.
The Swimsuit competition is meant for the camp value and we would like to remind all contestants to please be aware of their body type when picking stage wear. This is the last 25%.
The titleholder of Mr. Southeast Camarilla 2007 is determined by the votes of our judging panel, who will, of course, take into account the charity funds collected and the audience response to our show.
We intend for this event to bring together the concepts of the friendships and fun we enjoy in the Camarilla with the very real force we represent as a membership to benefit the world around us. The pageant is our main social event for Saturday night, following the close of the Requiem venue. Because of this, the atmosphere will be buoyant, cheerful, and energetic, and we invite all members to join us in our frivolity and the celebration of our charity success.
